The promise is eternal life in Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit is offered to all who will receive it. The first church didn't have a building, pews, a pastor, or choir, they were filled with Holy Spirit power and immediately went into the harvest!
Peter preached the gospel and the 120 spoke in tongues interpreting his words and 3000 were saved! The power of God was poured out and signs, wonders, and miracles became the norm. Today the church reminisces about the past, reads books about power, and dies in the pews of boredom!
The church of the Lord Jesus Christ is His body on the earth sent to do the greater works that He promised we would do in His name! Church is not a place to go, it is a Person to be in His stead. The very example and representation of Him on the earth!
Then those who gladly received his word were baptized, and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. Acts 2:41
