"Then the kingdom of Heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom." Matthew25:1

It was an ancient Jewish custom for the bridegroom and bride to be betrothed and for a time the bridegroom would leave with a promise of his return. The bride wouldn't know the exact time of his arrival although she would have to be ready when he returned for her.

So it is for the believer, our Bridegroom, the Lord Jesus Christ will return for His Bride, the body of Christ who awaits His return with great anticipation. At the time of His entrance there will be a shout announcing His return to receive His bride. Within the parable of the virgins five were wise and five were foolish. The foolish virgins took their lamps but took no oil, but the wise virgins took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

The wise virgins were those who were filled with the Holy Spirit and even though all ten slept as they awaited the bridegroom, when He returned, they were awakened and the wise virgins went into Him to be received for the wedding while the foolish virgins went looking for oil, and the door was closed! Are you ready for His return?

For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a shout with the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus, we shall always be with the Lord. I Thessalonians 4:16,17
