In all my days of ministry I don't think I have heard the gift of the interpretation of tongues used more than half a dozen times and usually it is the same woman who does the interpretation. The gift is usually employed in Pentecostal and Charismatic churches and is often not done according to scripture.
When I was in residential ministry with 35 women in tow our ladies often sang in different churches many of whom were Pentecostal. It was a spectacle when they would speak in tongues, usually the whole church, and there would be interpretation always in "King James English." You would not believe the expression on our ladies faces when this would occur and some were just in off the streets, it was a sight to behold, especially if they threw in a Jerico march!
God has to have a sense of humor watching us try and operate in His supernatural gifts just like a bunch of children opening their gifts at Christmas it can become quite chaotic! Anyway, the gifts are real, and God desires us to use them to edify His church, so don't be afraid to exercise your gifts because it is pleasing to God, and He will lead you and guide you in their use!
If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in the church, and let him speak to himself and to God. I Corinthians 14:27,28
