Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, "On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to each house of his father, a lamb for a household." Exodus 12:3

The sacrificial lamb, a type and shadow of the Lamb of God, yet to come in the distant future. God told Moses to have the children of Israel kill their lamb and smear some of the blood over the doorpost of their home and when the Death Angel would see it, He would pass over! This began the feast of the Passover.

Jesus is our sacrificial lamb slain for us to cleanse us from our sins and iniquities. His death, burial and resurrection set us free from the bondage of sin and death! The story of the deliverance of the children of Israel from Egypt depicts our deliverance from the bonds of sin by the cleansing of the blood of Christ!

As the people of God ate the Passover meal it represents the modern-day communion, we celebrate to remember what the Lord Jesus has done for us just as the Jews remember what God did for them in their deliverance from Egypt.

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:13-15
