Sheep spook easily always fearing predators that come to pick them out of the flock but when the shepherd is there among them, they are at peace. Staff in hand the shepherd protects his flock and when he is not there, he has sheep dogs who take his position to protect them.
There have only been a few times in my life when I thought I was going to die, once in mid-air over the hood of a car I hit broadside at 65 mph on my motorcycle and when I was diagnosed with high grade bladder cancer a few years ago. Death comes to us as a shadow, a dark foreboding spirit who brings hopelessness and fear, but Jesus has defeated death so we can be comforted by the Holy Spirit!
Many times, when people are in the valley of death's shadow they give up and submit to its wishes to kill them and so death wins! I believe in most cases when our time is up God makes it known to us and as we step across that heavenly river we are in glory with the Lord!
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
