David was consumed with lust for his neighbor's wife and all common sense went out the window! It wasn't that David needed sex, he had multiple wives and concubines for his pleasure, and he could have had any woman he wanted in Israel as long as they were single.
When we are weak the devil comes to tempt us just like he did with Jesus in the wilderness who became hungry after a 40 day fast. When this happens you must flee, resist the devil and turn away from his temptations! There is a point of no return as many found out in the back seat of a car when lust became uncontrollable, and its victims overcome with passion.
David was overcome with the lust of the flesh and let his guard down and the rest was history! He threw caution to the wind and broke the commandments of God, and the consequences of his actions were grave as we will see!
But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived my beloved brethren and sisters! James 1:14-16
