An evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore, a cruel messenger will be sent against him. Proverbs 17:11

King Saul was not a righteous man, and when God called him to destroy the Amalekites, he rebelled! God said through His prophet Samuel to destroy this evil brood: women, children, nursing babes, and livestock!

Instead of obeying the command of the Lord, Saul took Agag, king of the Amalekites, as his prisoner and kept some of the spoils, saying they would be an offering to the Lord. When Samuel came back, Agag was in chains, and he was livid, saying, "Why didn't you obey the Lord?" He then took a sword and hacked Agag to pieces!

Samuel said to him, "The Lord has torn the kingdom from your hands, and he went to anoint David, a young shepherd boy, to be the new King of Israel. Saul would be demonized from that time on and would eventually be killed in battle along with his son, Jonathan, after receiving a word from the witch of Endor!

But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing (evil) spirit from the Lord troubled him. And Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely, a distressing (evil) spirit from God is troubling you. I Samuel 16:14-15
