Now, thanks be to God who always leads us to triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses (to spread over a wide area) the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.  For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. II Corinthians 2:14,15

The fragrance of Christ is what a believer smells like to the world, and we are to spread that fragrance to the lost and dying of this world. We are born again from the very seed of Heaven, and when we begin to bloom, we give off a fragrant aroma of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Those who are perishing are diffusing the smell of death to those who come into contact with them. Do you remember the lyrics of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song, "The smell of death surrounds you?" I have smelled that smell before and even had it on me before I was saved. When I used to minister to the poor, the smell of their homes or apartments had a certain smell about them. There was one that stood out when I walked in; their baby was playing on the floor with a half-dead mouse, and the smell was horrid.

When casting out demons, there were many times when the demon came out of a person, that there would be an awful smell, and that's why they are called unclean spirits. So, what do you smell like, a fragrant aroma from a relationship with God, or do you smell of death and Hell?

To the one, we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other, the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ. II Corinthians 2:16

by Timothy Laughlin Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast (firm, immovable and faithful) spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You. Psalm 51:10-13 Is it really possible to have a pure and clean heart, even when you have committed adultery and murder? The answer is a resounding, yes! Through confession, acknowledgment, and repentance, God will wash your sins away and remove them from as far as the east is from the west! He will renew your relationship with Him and restore your faith and joy in your salvation. Fear, doubt, and unbelief will leave, and peace will cover your spirit, soul, and body. The hole in your heart will be closed and filled with Holy Spirit presence! His powerful anointing will return, and sinners will be saved! David repented of his sins, and God forgave him and set him free from his transgressions and iniquities. Although God forgives us, we must remember that the consequences of our sins continue to follow us even though we repent. David suffered greatly during the rest of his life. Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise. For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, you will not despise.
