Love is not only a gift, but also a law and as Jesus asked the lawyer, "What is written in the law?" The lawyer, well versed in Mosaic law answered and said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." Jesus said, "You have answered correctly, do this and you will live."
Loving God and your neighbor are the two most important commands in the Word in which we are to obey and acknowledge as our goal in life! To love God is easy when we consider all He has done for us. Loving our neighbor, not so much! I started out to do my dead level best to love my neighbor and in forty something years was robbed, lied to and about, taken advantage of, and spent thousands with no hope of a return!
But my Mentor said to me, "Count it all joy My son, they put Me on a cross after all I did for them, but I said to My Father, Forgive them!" So, it doesn't matter the time and money, or all the trouble, what matters is the God given gift of love in your heart for others!
For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. II Corinthians 5:14,15
