"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him and he with Me." Revelation 3:20
Contrary to popular belief, the above-mentioned scripture does not refer to salvation, Jesus is knocking on the door of His church! Now, He will knock on one's heart convicting him that he is lost but, in this instance, He is referring to His bride.
The apostle John is speaking the revelation given to him by the Spirit to the churches and the words of Christ knocking is because the churches have closed the door on Him doing their own thing. Today it is the same, the pastor for the most part is the only one operating in his gift while the rest of the congregation sits in the pew.
When we lock Jesus out of His own body no one is hearing anything in the Spirit, that is why Jesus said He would come and dine with him who opens the door. To dine is to feed His flock the word of God!
"To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Revelation 3:21,22
