The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:1-4

Sheep are the only animal that require a shepherd, and there is much to do to care and feed a flock. Most of what I know and have learned about sheep is from a book by Phillip Keller, A Shepherd looks at the 23rd Psalm. I suggest you read it because it will give you insight about our Shepherd and His care for us.
Keller was a shepherd in South Africa, and he tells of his trials and his experiences in raising sheep. First of all, sheep have to be led to new pasture because they eat the grass down to nothing and this is why cattle ranchers hated them, because they destroyed their pastures. Sheep also have to drink from still water because rushing streams scare them, and they won't drink!
In the next Devotion we will explore "Divine Sheep Management" to get an idea of how much work our Shepherd has to do in the care and feeding of the believer! I never had sheep, I had pigs, and I will tell you, "Sheep are stupid, pigs are smart!"
He will feed His flock like a Shepherd: He will gather His lambs with His arms, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young. Isaiah 40:11
