Because you disdained all My counsel, and would have none of My rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, when your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. Proverbs 1:23-27

It began in the garden when God created two human beings, one from the dust of the ground and one from his rib. He gave them the authority to be caretakers of His entire creation, but His lost son Lucifer tempted them to disobey and eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and brought a curse upon them and all of mankind!
God never gave up on man to repent and to love God, but throughout history, they failed to surrender to His love and control! Sodom and Gomorrah, the people of Noah's day, and the children of Israel in the wilderness, all failed Him and refused to submit to His leading. Because He gave us a will to choose, we are forever rebelling against Him.
From the time His Son Jesus was born until He gave His life for all of mankind, Israel refused to believe and rejected the King of Glory, and from that time, they have suffered greatly. Many others have rejected God's mercy and grace, refusing to surrender and become born again.
“Then they will call on Me, but I will not answer; They will seek Me diligently, but they will not find Me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, they would have none of My counsel and despised My every rebuke. Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their own way and be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to Me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.” Proverbs 1:28-33
