Then God said to Elijah, "Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord." And behold the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. God wanted to speak to Elijah but all he could say was about all the mighty exploits he had done! God then told him to go out and see the Lord show him how He speaks to man. He speaks in a still small voice; a delicate whispering voice called a Zepher.
My late brother used to say to me, "You are not listening if you're talking!" So true when we need a word from God we have to listen carefully for His still small voice. In the midst of your daily pursuits and busyness it is impossible to discern Holy Spirit's voice as He speaks in a whisper.
Did your mother ever say to you, "Be still!" Mine did and it was to have my undivided attention and so it is with God when He speaks, He wants our complete attention so that we can know what He wants us to know!
"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, (heathens) I will be exalted in the earth!" Psalm 46:10
