"Abide in Me and I in you, as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in Me." John 15:4
Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches and like natural branches we get our nutrition from the vine. When a branch is cut off it looks healthy for a few days but after a time it begins to wither.
So, it is with us and so many who leave the life-giving Vine, they dry up and many fall away and end up being burned. Jesus is our life, and His Spirit gives us the water of life to keep us healthy and filled with spiritual power and strength. In order to stay in the Spirit, it is important to pray, meditate and study the scripture as well as fellowship with other believers.
Our spiritual life depends upon our ability to stay connected to the Vine, the Lord Jesus Christ and not allow anything to separate us from Him! We must continually war in the Spirit against the powers of darkness and keep ourselves prayed up lest we become cut off from the Vine!
"If anyone does not abide (dwell) in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered, and they (powers of darkness) gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." John 15:6,7
