I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Psalm 32:8

Remember when, as a child, you were doing something you shouldn't have, and all your mother would have to do was look at you a certain way? I also had a couple of teachers who would do the same thing!

"He found him in a desert land, and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye." We are the apple of God's eye, and this phrase originated as referring to the central aperture of the eye. Figuratively, it is something, or more usually someone, cherished above others.

This is God's perfect will for us, His children, who must be led and protected on this journey of life. He doesn't want to have to use a bridle or bit, only the look of His eye upon those He loves. His all-seeing eye guards us from the attacks of our adversaries and from the storms of life!

Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you. Psalm 32:9
