Mary of Magdala called Magdalene was a follower of Jesus, set free from demonic possession and a faithful disciple and contrary to the views of most, an apostle of the Christ. Mary was the first to see the risen Lord!
I was inspired to write about her to honor her diligence to serve the Lord Jesus supporting His ministry along with other women and walking with Him on His journey to the cross and beyond. She followed Him to Golgotha and with His mother Mary stood and watched in horror as He suffered and eventually gave up His Spirit and breathed His last.
After His death and burial Mary went to the tomb where she found it empty to anoint the body and there were two angels, one sitting at the head and one at the feet which I believe is a revelation of the Ark of the Covenant with the cherubim at each end, but the Holy Presence was gone.
As Mary was leaving, Jesus appeared to her and revealed Himself as the risen Christ! This is the first apostolic mission as He said to her, "Go and tell My disciples that I have risen!" The mission of an apostle is to be sent and so she became the first to go in the name of Jesus Christ. A truly blessed woman of God who obeyed the Lord even though the word and witness of women was not reliable to the Jewish men of that day! Amen!
It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them. Luke 24:10,11
