So the women sang as they danced, and said, "Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands." I Samuel 18:7
Coming home from battle the women came out singing for Saul and David and ascribed more kills to David than Saul and the demon from God came upon him! From that point on Saul was out to kill his young future son-in-law but every time he tried David escaped!
Saul promised David his oldest daughter, but she was given to another, so to try and trap David he promised his youngest, Michal, and asked a dowry of 100 Philistine foreskins thinking that David would be killed in the process, but David returned with 200 foreskins, a gruesome dowry indeed!
You can't trust a demon possessed person as David found out because when the demon came upon Saul, he would always try to kill David! As the relationship began to go South David knew eventually, he would have to leave in order to save his life.
Now the distressing spirit from the Lord came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing music with his hand. Then Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away from Saul's presence, and he drove the spear into the wall. So David fled and escaped that night. I Samuel 19:9,10
