I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:3-6

The good work God is doing is making us like Jesus, and as a Potter, He molds us and sculpts a supernatural expression of His Son. Through trials and tribulations, we are heated to the boiling point, bringing to the surface all of our imperfections.
Clay, like us, is pliable until it goes into the kiln to be heated, but once it is finished, if it still has imperfections, the Potter crushes it and starts over. Although we would wish our pottery to be perfect, God leaves many of His works of art with deep scars and imperfections, reminding us that He is the potter and we are the clay!
Remember when Jacob wrestled with God overnight and would not let go until He blessed him, he was left with his hip out of joint and a limp. Now, when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.
But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You, our potter; and all we are the work of Your hand. Isaiah 64:8
