This was the battle of all battles fought by angelic majesties in the heavens! Defeated, expelled, and cursed forever Lucifer and his angels landed in God's creation becoming an eternal enemy! Earth was a pristine gem placed in the universe by God to be a perfect home for His new man and wife, Adam and Eve.
The Garden of Eden was free from pestilence, sickness, and sin, a perfect environment for God's creation to thrive, and maybe live forever! Free will is a wonderful gift from God but as we see with the first family it cost them their livelihood and eventually their lives! Their disobedience caused sin to enter their bodies, and the land was cursed forever.
Like a deadly devastating plague sin broke out in the earth and with it a curse that would follow the bloodlines of mankind forever. First God cursed Satan, then He put enmity (a state of intense hostility) between Satan and the woman. Then He said to the woman, "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain, you shall bring forth children. To Adam, He said that the ground was cursed, in toil, he shall eat of it, and it shall yield thorns and thistles.
So, He drove out the man, and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life. Genesis 3:24
