"Therefore give to Your servant an understanding (hearing) heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?" I Kings 3:9

After the death of King David Solomon became King and sought the Lord for wisdom and discernment to judge His people. God was impressed that he didn't ask for riches, nor a long life or for the life of his enemies and so He granted this wish to him.

Solomon became the wisest man in the land, and he also became the wealthiest as God blessed him with untold riches, glory and honor! One day while Solomon was judging the people two harlots came and stood before him and said that they both lived together and the one lady had a baby and in a day or so the other lady had one.

The second lady laid on her child and it died so she put the dead child with the first woman and took her child. When the woman awoke to nurse her child, it was dead, and she examined it and found the children had been switched. Then the women argued about whose child it was and Solomon called for a sword to be brought to him. Then he said, "Divide the child in two and give half to one and half to the other!" Then the first woman whose child it was said no, give her the living child and so Solomon knew whose it was. That is Godly wisdom!

And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had rendered; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice. I Kings 3:28
