I am afraid in our modern microwave world of cell phones, electronic gadgetry and the Internet, we have lost the meaning of true discipleship! Today a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ is described as one who attends church, if he is really radical, Sunday school too, and if he is really sold out, Wednesday night prayer meetings!
But is that what Jesus intended for His disciples and is that true discipleship? I would say no in light of the scriptures and the model presented to us in the gospel! Jesus said in order for one to follow Him he would have to deny himself, take up his cross, (a cruel instrument of death) and in essence, give up his entire life, leave his family, his livelihood and all that he had to be a disciple of Christ!
If Jesus came to you in the flesh, and asked you to become a disciple and give all to follow Him, would you? Most would say yes, but wouldn't leave their comfortable life, saying, "I am willing!" but they never do. Within this Devotional teaching we will see the "Terms of True Discipleship" that we may evaluate our life, whether or not we are in fact, His disciples!
"For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels." Luke 9:26
