For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack that there may be equality. II Corinthians 8:13,14

My first experience with New Testament giving was over forty-one years ago when I entered the Baptist church in my neighborhood. Newly saved I wanted to please God and so I began to tithe which by the way is one of the first things churches teach new converts!

I will never forget my first attempt to give because the only money I had was a hundred dollar bill that I had made that week cutting scrap metal because I had gone broke due to a $2000.00 a week cocaine addiction. Although there was a war going on in my head when it came time to take the offering I put it all in the plate! That week I made $1000.00 and from that time I began to prosper again and I kept tithing.

As I grew in the Lord and studied His word I noticed the tithe wasn't taught in the New Testament and only mentioned a couple of times and that had to do with the Jews before Jesus went to the cross. The apostle Paul didn't teach the Gentiles to tithe but to be led by the Spirit in their giving. So, "To tithe or not to tithe, that is the question." My answer is, pray and ask the Lord, study and by all means, be led by the Spirit!

As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack." II Corinthians 8:15
