The apostle Paul rebuked the church at Corinth for not dealing with a man who was having sex with his stepmother. Like many churches today sin is never dealt with or in many cases never even known to exist because there are so many people who are like ghosts, they wander in, sit for a while and then leave never getting to know anyone or to be known!
Paul on the other hand knew these people and was livid because no one rebuked this man for his immorality. Most probably thought it's none of my business or I just don't want to get involved, but it would be like a husband knowing that his neighbor was in his bedroom with his wife and not dealing with it! The body of Christ is the bride or wife of the Lord Jesus and immorality, and adultery cannot be tolerated!
The apostle told the church to deliver this man to Satan to be killed that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord! That is serious but necessary for the bride of Christ to remain pure and holy! But even though this man was condemned to die by the hands of the devil, the mercy of God was available to still save his soul in the Day of Judgement!
For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore, put away from yourselves the evil person. I Corinthians 5:12,13
