But the fruit of the Spirit is longsuffering. Galatians 5:22

The word longsuffering is made up of two Greek words, makro meaning long and thumos meaning temper or long tempered. This would be the opposite of short-tempered! So, to be long tempered one would have to be able to hold his anger back with self-control.

One of my attributes is longsuffering although I have many others that are not so honorable! In Junior High my football coach would yell at me to get mad and hurt em! But in my heart, I just couldn't bring myself to do it! The only fight I was ever involved in was one sided when leaving school one day a kid followed me out and wanted to fight, I didn't run I stood there and took the beating not wanting to hurt the boy! Years later we met and when he saw me, he had tears in his eyes sorry for what he had done!

Two men come to mind that were angry and would fight at the drop of a hat! Sammy and Wesley, both did time for murder and were violent felons, but I befriended them both and witnessed to them. They both reaped what they had sown, Sammy was shot in a drug deal and Wesley was shot by his stepson and I ended up doing both their funerals!

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Galatians 6:7,8
