But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Regeneration- rebirth, spiritual renovation, restoration.
Kindness- God's nature toward us is kind and good, always seeking our best and desiring our image to become like His.
Love- God's love has been proven by the gift of His Son Jesus, Who died and shed His blood so we could live forever.
Works- From the beginning of time man has sought to please God by doing good works, all of which at best are filthy rags.
Mercy- God's feelings of compassion for His lost children.
Saved by washing- Our sins are washed away by the blood of Jesus and our minds are renewed by His word.
Justified- One who is pardoned for that which he has done wrong.
Grace- God's ability to come to us in the midst of our sin and rebellion to save us from eternal damnation.
Heirs- One who has received an inheritance of eternal blessing and everlasting life.
To receive eternal life one must recognize his sinful condition, being lost and without hope of ever attaining it on his own merit. We are born in sin inherited from our unfaithful ancestors going all the way back to the Garden of Eden.
All of us have broken His laws and lived in total rebellion to His Gracious Spirit.
Its like driving down the highway of life with no speed limit and suddenly topping a hill and seeing a sign that says 70 MPH, immediately you are convicted by the law and guilty of breaking it.
Another way to look at salvation is when you were a child playing outside and habitually would get covered in mud, and then try to come into your mother's clean house. Even though you promised to do good works by mowing the yard or taking out the garbage, or even to clean your room, nothing would remove the mud and allow entrance but a shower. Once the mud was removed, entrance to mother's clean house was granted. So it is in regards to eternal life, there is nothing you can do but ask God's forgiveness and receive the cleansing power of His blood by faith to wash away you sins.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done evil in Your sight- that You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge.
Behold I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop ( a branch used to smear the blood over the doorpost on the night of passover to protect those inside from destruction. ) and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be as white as snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness. Psalms 51: 1-8
Eternal life is a free gift given to those that are willing to give their life to Jesus and confess their sins and forsake them by turning away from evil, and by faith believing in the Savior's cleansing blood.
Today you can be free from sin and the penalty of eternal damnation by surrendering your life to Christ. Repent of your sin and rebellion and ask Him to forgive you and by faith make Him Lord of your life. You can be saved today from eternal punishment and know the true peace that only His forgiveness can give.
Today if you are truly ready to give your life to Jesus Christ and become a disciple and give up your life of sin and selfishness then I would ask you to make this oath of commitment:
Lord Jesus please forgive me of my sin and rebellion and the transgressions of breaking Your holy commandments. Wash me in Your precious blood and make me clean. I acknowledge that You are Lord of Lords and King of Kings and that You died on the cross to give me NEW LIFE and that You were raised from the dead. I renounce the works of the devil in my life and surrender to Jesus all of my heart and my total allegiance, in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer and are serious about becoming a follower of Jesus, please let us know and we will send materials at no charge to help you grow in your faith.
Just praying a prayer doesn't punch your ticket for heaven, but it is a beginning to a life long walk with Jesus. When one gives their life to Christ and the Holy Spirit comes into their body, believe me, they will know it.
May the Lord bless you....
''If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. '' For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.'' For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?'' Luke 9: 23-25
