"But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." Matthew 6:6

The secret place is that special meeting place alone with God, whether a closet, a bedroom a mountain top or anywhere you and the Most High can commune. The quiet time is reserved for you and God to talk about private or secret things that only the two of you know. In this world of social media, cell phones and the Internet it is hard to find a quiet place, but it is imperative because God speaks in a still small voice!

Psalm 46:10 says "Be still and know that I am God." Did your mother ever tell you to be still and listen to her when you were fidgety or anxious about something? Same with God, He wants us to be still and listen to the voice of His Spirit. Elijah, prophet of God, who had just defeated the prophets of Baal and Jezebel and called fire down from Heaven experienced a great counter attack and hid himself in a cave.

God spoke to Elijah and said to him, "What are you doing here?" Elijah replied to Him about all the great exploits he had just done in defeating God's enemies, but like most great men doing the works and ministry of God they never shut up and get quiet enough to hear Him! Ministry and good works can shut out the voice of God if you never take the time to hear Him.

Then God said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord." And behold the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire, a still small voice.
