Jesus is the architect and the apostle is the master builder or contractor called to build the house. Jesus is also the model given by the Most High of what His assembly of believers are to be, a living breathing expression of the Son of God in the earth!
I have no doubt that many of the pastors who have founded churches around the world were in fact, apostles, and there are many church buildings that are filled with the life of the Spirit in people who are called to be His body. The problem with most is they become a prison that trap people in a social club or country club atmosphere and forget their former calling to go and make disciples.
Jesus didn't call and send out pastors, He sent apostles to build His ekklesia. (an assembly of believers called together to worship) God loves spontaneity and each of the apostles had different character qualities and gifts giving His fellowships a different flavor, rather that a cookie cutter approach! It is interesting that in three and a half years of signs, wonders, miracles, walking on water, raising the dead and healing multitudes there were only 120 in His church! Today men would have filled auditoriums, advertised it and started mega churches, but God's church is not built on signs and wonders!
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 3:11
