For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes. Romans 1:16

Within the gospel are several components that are necessary for salvation. One is conviction, without which no one can confess they are a sinner. The night I was saved, even though I had no thought of being or even knowing what it meant to be saved, I was under the conviction that my life was a total trainwreck!

When asked if I believed God would save me, all I said was, "Yes!" I don't remember praying the sinner's prayer as if it held some magical spell for one to be saved, I just said, "Yes!" The main point of salvation and the gospel is to save mankind from their sins. In order to obtain eternal life, one must acknowledge that he is indeed a sinner.

A rich man approached Jesus and asked, "Good Master what shall I do in order to inherit eternal life? Jesus said, "No one is good but God!" Then He asked the lad if he knew the commandments, and he said he had kept them from his youth. Then Jesus said to him, "One thing you lack, sell your possessions and give to the poor and come follow Me!" The boy couldn't do it and left sorrowful.

Jesus said to His disciples, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!" Mark 10:23
