When we think of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, we tend to think only of the cross, but if that wasn't bad enough He suffered and bled in six other places to give us the benefit of this cruel suffering.
It is hard to imagine being whipped thirty-nine times with a whip, called a cat of nine tails consisting of leather straps with pieces of bone and metal attached so that they would rip and tear the flesh. The movie, "THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST" is the most graphic portrayal I have ever seen that depicts the abject cruelty of the Roman soldiers.
It has been said that there are thirty-nine root diseases that cause all sickness, disease, and infirmity and Jesus healed them all! In Psalm 103 it states that He healed all of our diseases and Isaiah 53 says that by His stripes (wounds that tear) we are healed. In the gospel, Jesus healed all who came to Him, looking toward the cross and the suffering He would face!
Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all His benefits, Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases. Psalm 103:2,3
