Now Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up, and struck the water; and it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground. And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask! What may I do for you , before I am taken away from you?" Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." II Kings 2:8,9

This is a prophetic type and shadow of the double portion anointing the church of Jesus Christ was to receive in the future yet to come. Elijah was a type of Jesus taken into Heaven and Elisha was a type of the church who saw Him ascend into Heaven and then received His double portion anointing!
After His ascension the power of God was poured out on His sold out disciples, patiently awaiting the promise given to receive His Spirit. This powerful outpouring would empower the church to fulfill their commission and enable them to be able to do the greater works that He promised they would do in His mighty name!
Go! God's operative to reach a lost world with His gospel and to heal its sick, cast out demons and even raise the dead! Obviously we have lost this powerful anointing, satisfied to sit and hear of these things in the past that many of their leaders say has passed away! But it has not, it is received by people who desire to please God and obey His commands to be filled and to Go!
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. John 14:12
