One thing I have desired of the Lord, that I will seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple. Psalm 27:4

Dwelling in the house of the Lord is actually different now for us who are new creations in Christ. Because there is no earthly temple, we have become the dwelling place of God, the temple of His Holy Spirit.

In actuality the secret place is that realm where we meet with the Most High, that still and quiet place of refuge we enter by faith to meet with the Father, to commune with Him in the Spirit. Before David became King over God's people he would commune with God under the stars as he watched over his father's sheep.

Throughout David's life he practiced the presence of God and sought His divine wisdom in every situation, communing with the Father before going into battle, or strengthening himself in the Lord if he was weary and heavy laden. The only time he neglected to seek the Lord, he stayed home from battle and ended up committing adultery and murder that nearly cost him his life.

For in a time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. Psalm 27:5
