John the baptist went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Luke 3:3
John the baptist preached the un-compromised gospel of Jesus Christ, the same gospel Jesus, the disciples and the apostle Paul preached, repentance! The baptism John was offering to those who were saved by believing and repenting of their sins was their death, burial and resurrection to a new life in Christ who was to come!
It is ironic that John, being called baptist, one of today's largest evangelical denominations who for the most part, don't believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit would be the first to preach it as he announced the arrival of the Lamb of God. Once a person repents and believes in the redemptive power of the gospel of Jesus Christ he is a new creation and needs to be baptized in water and then baptized in the Holy Spirit.
When one is saved the Holy Spirit indwells the spirit within the person and then when one is baptized in the Spirit He comes upon them releasing the power, anointing and the gifts of the Spirit. If you have never been baptized in the Holy Spirit and you are truly born again, begin seeking the Lord and ask Him to fill you! I promise you will never be the same!
"I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." Luke 3:16
