A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. Like an erring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear. Proverbs 25:11,12

A fitly spoken word is a word that is appropriate for the person to whom you are speaking, a word prepared and proper for the moment. Have you ever given a word to someone that wasn't right or appropriate for their edification?

People clamor for a "Word from God" but when they receive it and its not some mushy little blessing of peace and prosperity, but rather a word of correction they come unglued! I have heard few words of exhortation and prophecy that were actually spoken by the Holy Spirit, but by men who were trying to make a name for themselves by being prophetic which in most cases was pathetic!

Whether we speak to someone an exhortation, a rebuke, or a prophetic word, let it be initiated by the Holy Spirit and not from ourselves. Prophecy is meant to shape and hew the living stones so they can fit together in the body of Christ, becoming the very temple of the Most High on the earth! So let our iron sharpen iron and our words be spoken in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit so that the world will see the true sons and daughters of the kingdom.

And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. II Peter 1:19-21
