Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on meekness. Colossians 3:12

Moses was said to be meek more than any on the face of the earth, former Prince of Egypt, leader of Israel and a man who not only confronted Pharaoh but performed many signs and wonders before the Egyptians. When pursued by the armies of Egypt he raised his staff and the waters of the Red sea stood up to allow Israel to cross over!

Meekness doesn't sound like the attribute of a leader, but it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit for a man to wait and be quiet before the Lord, patiently seeking the wisdom and knowledge of the Most High. Moses was one of the greatest leaders the world has ever known and he was opposed often by his people and even his own family, but always allowed God to have the final say. To be meek is to resist evil and assault and patiently wait on God to vindicate us.

Jesus said in one of the beatitudes, "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." More than likely taken from Psalm 37:11 in which patience provides those who wait on the Lord great reward and blessing.

For evil doers shall be cut off (destroyed) but those who wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; indeed you will look carefully for his place, but it shall be no more. But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. Psalm 37:9-11
