Jehovah Shammah is translated the "Existing One." Shammah was derived from the Hebrew word sham which can be translated as "there" and is a symbolic name for the earthly city Jerusalem.
Although Jerusalem was in ruins, the name Shammah indicates that God had not abandoned it and that it would be restored. The name Shammah is only mentioned once in scripture but throughout history God has promised His people that He is always with them and that He would never leave them nor forsake them.
So it is with us who are born again followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, His promise is still good that He is always with us and nothing can separate us from the love of God! In this we have hope, the confident expectation that He will never leave us!
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38,39
