And the Lord said to Joshua, "See! I have given Jerico into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor." Joshua 6:2
Joshua was about to undertake a monumental task to move a nation across a river, take down the formidable city of Jerico and trust God to go before them to provide all of their needs! Just the daily statistics of feeding the entire nation of Israel and their livestock was overwhelming and an impossible feat without God!
When launching out in faith, one must have the word of God to engage in your endeavor and be strong in the belief that God will in fact go before you! Many a fool has proceeded to obtain some wonderful dream or vision and God is nowhere to be found and has not endorsed it! Years ago, when I was still selling equipment, I was desperate to get an order to rebuild a machine for a company in the stockyards, but the door wouldn't open, and I was really upset that it just wasn't happening.
On the way down to talk to the engineers and try to get the order it came on the radio that there was an ammonia leak and explosion killing those whom I was about to meet with! So, you had better check in with God before you miss Him and end up all alone by yourself! Joshua, on the other hand had the word of God, the anointing, and the courage to go and fulfill his mission in which was about to unfold with the priests taking the ark into the Jordan!
And the Lord said to Joshua, "This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you." Joshua 3:7
