Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:10,11
David, a man after God's own heart had defiled himself, separated himself from the Most High and alienated himself from his closest friends. His heart was darkened with the stain of sin because of his evil actions against a faithful man and his wife.
Even though we try to justify our actions we cannot deny the conviction of the Holy Spirit pressing down upon our heart grieving Him and making us miserable in our sins! David knew he had grieved the Holy Spirit and he wasn't ignorant or oblivious to his sins like his predecessor, King Saul, but he cried out to God to renew his heart and cleanse it from all unrighteousness.
When we cry out to God for mercy, the blood of the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ washes our heart and makes us steadfast in our spirits again to stand firm, rooted and grounded in our faith and not wavering in our walk with Him. No longer doubled minded, David was washed and renewed and strengthened in his faith to once again fight the good fight! If you have sinned against God, confess before Him, cry out for mercy and ask Him to cleanse your heart and renew you and you will be forgiven!
"Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways." says the Lord God. "Repent and turn from your transgressions so that iniquity will not be your ruin. "Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel? "For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies," says the Lord God. "Therefore turn and live!" Ezekiel 18:30-33
