Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. Psalm 50:15

We have seen in the previous Devotional Teachings the various traps and snares of the enemy and the many warnings of our heavenly Father to heed His word and flee from the sins that so easily entangle us. Psalm 51 holds instruction for those who have sinned and have opened their hearts for the enemy to gain a stronghold.

King David was a man just like us with passions and desires and although he was one of the greatest military commanders, mighty warrior and a man after God's own heart, he opened himself up to give his enemies great occasion by committing adultery with his neighbor's wife in a moment of unbridled lust, and then killed her husband to cover it up!

David's sins carried with them two death penalties and being a leader of God's people even made it worse. For almost a year he covered his sins until God sent the Prophet Nathan to confront him and convict him of his deplorable behavior! Nathan told David about a man who took his servant's only ewe lamb and served it up for his guest and he jumped up and said, "That man shall die!" Then Nathan said, "You are the man!"

His heart convicted, he fell to his knees and confessed his sins, crying out to God for mercy and then repented before the Most High! Within the next few Devotionals we will see the steps that David took to be delivered and set free, although the consequences of his actions followed him to the grave!

"Most assuredly, I say unto you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." John 8:31-36
