Peter came to Jesus and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven." Matthew 18:21,22

Jesus was referring to the complete cycle of time for forgiveness when He told Peter to forgive 490 times. He also told him the story of a man who was a servant to a certain king who was settling accounts with his servants. The servant in question owed him 10,000 talents and was unable to pay.

The king demanded he be sold along with his family and all that he had, but the servant fell down before him and said to his master, "Have patience with me, and I will pay you all." Then the master was moved with compassion and forgave him all the debt. But that servant went out and found a fellow servant who owed him a hundred denarii and he laid hands on him and choked him and his fellow servant said, "Have patience with me and I will pay you all." But the man wouldn't forgive and threw him in prison till he could pay the debt.

This is how we open ourselves up to demonic oppression when we refuse to forgive even as we have been forgiven. When his fellow servants found out they reported it to their master and he called the servant and said, "You wicked servant, I forgave you all because you begged me, should you not have had compassion on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you?"

"And his master was angry and delivered him to the torturers (a type and shadow of demons) until he should pay all that was due him. "So shall My heavenly Father also do to you if each of you from the heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses." Matthew 18:34,35
