"There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously (lived in luxury) every day. "But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores." Luke 16:19-21

Was this none other than the rich young ruler, all grown up who came to Jesus asking about eternal life, but then refused to give up his wealth to follow Him? Maybe so, but it also represents the church who ignores the poor, needy sinners right outside their big double doors!
Lazarus was an undesirable, laid at the gates of the wealthy only to die in need, the rich never lifting a finger to help him! This is not the ministry of disciples who have given all to follow Jesus because they have been given a new heart and a compassion for the poor, the needy, the sick and the sinner! The world is in need of a Savior and we are the only expression of Jesus in the earth willing to go into all the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ!
The rich man died and went to Hell and Lazarus also died and was carried to Paradise by the angels. The rich man cried out in torment in the flames of perdition to Abraham asking for just a drip of water and begging him to go to his brothers to warn them, but Abraham told him they have Moses (the law) and the prophets just as folks today have the word of God!
"I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. "So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,' and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked." Revelation 3:15-17
