Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on longsuffering. Colossians 3:12

Patience is a virtue that not many have today in this fast paced world of microwave ovens, cell phones and drive in everything! Even in the churches the sermon better not be over thirty minutes long because we have many things to do!

I'm glad God is not like us or we would be would be toast, burnt toast! His patience and longsuffering is likened to the patience we have with our children not wanting them to fail in life and for them to have a relationship with God. What would it take for you to give up on your kids, although some have and others displayed tough love, but the motive is love and restoration?

Take the "Prodigal Son" for instance who left his father's house and wasted his inheritance and ended up in the pig pen. The father knew that he couldn't intervene in the process of restoring this boy because if he rescued him before he had reached his bottom he would have to do it again! In my 30 year journey directing drug and alcohol restoration centers I have seen this countless times, mothers and fathers enabling their children to continue in sin without the consequences that help change them.

The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. II Peter 3:9
