And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, "Why has the Lord done thus to this land and this house? "Then they will answer, 'Because they forsook the Lord, God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this calamity on them.' " II Chronicles 7:21,22

Solomon had just finished the temple of God and was dedicating it to the Lord with praise, worship and hundreds of sacrifices as it was deserving of great admiration! The glory of God had filled it and God spoke to Solomon as he prayed about the temple in which in the future it would be totally destroyed if Israel turned away from the Most High!
As we have seen in the previous Devotionals I have not scratched the surface in relating the judgment of God and the fear of the Lord that comes from these events in the Old Testament. God is an awesome God who demands our total allegiance and Devotion. We must remember these acts of divine judgment by a holy God are written for us as examples for our admonition upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
I didn't mention many of God's acts of judgment against rebellion and the defection of His people from His divine guidance, such as the time He destroyed the world because of man's wickedness, an extinction event when the great flood killed off the entire population of the earth, leaving Noah and His family to repopulate the world. Today however, it is taught to kids in Sunday school, more about the animals than the righteous judgment of God on a wicked and perverse people and the rainbow, a sign of a divine covenant, has become the banner of the homosexuals! May God have mercy!
"When I shut up Heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." II Chronicles 7:13,14
