Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?" And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him. Matthew 26:14-16

Judas, the man who became the traitor, is the supreme enigma of the New Testament because it is so hard to see how anyone who was so close to Jesus and experienced the miracles under His teaching could ultimately betray him! Is it any different with us today?
Have we ever betrayed Jesus because of money, pleasure or just the things of the world that led us astray? Sure we have, even Peter denied the Lord three times, the difference being, he repented and returned to serve the Lord. Judas was human just like us all but he never gave up his life in obedience or repented of his sins. Judas, like many today have a fleshly world view and a spirit of nationalism that dominates their lives instead of the supernatural life in the Spirit. They look to the world and not the kingdom as their source!
At the last supper Jesus told His disciples saying, "One of you will betray Me." What is interesting about this is the fact they didn't all point the finger at Judas, being perplexed about whom He spoke. The reason is, Judas blended in like many today who attend church, look religious but have within them no spiritual life.
Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it." And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, What you do, do quickly. John 13:26,27
