He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward than he who flatters with the tongue. Proverbs 28:23
Today's preachers and so-called prophets don't rebuke anyone for fear of reprisal and don't want to rock the boat or run off the big tithers. When was the last time you heard a Message that brought about conviction that led to repentance? A rebuke is a call for people to account for their bad behavior.
Imagine the prophets of old coming to one of our well orchestrated Sunday morning services with padded pews, Starbucks coffee and a bookstore with the Pastor's best sellers. The Message would be three points and a poem that would make the congregation ooh and aah over the warm and fuzzy sermon designed to draw them back next week for more of the same. As an example, the apostle Paul visited the church of Corinth and found out that a man was sleeping with his step mother and everyone knew it, but did nothing and so Paul rebuked them and turned the lad over to the devil to kill him that his spirit might be saved in the day of the Lord.
Today when we expose sin or sinners we are accused of judging and so most of the world continues in their sins, heading into a fiery eternity away from the presence of the Lord. We as believers are instructed to judge those within the church as it states in I Corinthians 5:12. The devil's diabolical plan is for sin to remain hidden in the hearts of men, not to be exposed by the preaching of the Word. As you will see in the near future, the Word is going to become the most offensive book in the world, offending the homosexual, fornicators, transgenders, drunkards and those who murder the unborn! It is already happening in California where they are trying to ban it! So, my word to you is the word given to my namesake, Timothy!
Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come (and now is) when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. II Timothy 4:2-4
