To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:19
The acceptable year of the Lord is the year of Jubilee, a type and shadow of all the Old Testament feasts and ordinances being fulfilled by the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Being freed from these rituals we have entered a new and better covenant in Christ as New Testament believers.
The year of Jubilee was meant to be celebrated every 50 years and it was a time of rest and peace for them and for the land. The beginning of Jubilee was announced by the blowing of trumpets, it's name means, "The continual sound of a horn blast" and the very name of the horn was Jubilee, the sound of the horn and the name of the feast.
Within the year of Jubilee God's people were released from all past debts, slaves were freed, family inheritances were restored and land that had been sold was returned to its original owners. Today in Christ we have been set free from our debt of sin by the shedding of the Savior's blood allowing us entrance into the New Covenant written in blood.
And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. Hebrews 9:15
