For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight, that You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge. Isaiah 51:3,4

Conviction leads to confession and confession to repentance and that opens the door to forgiveness! When the Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin to our attention we surrender and confess before the Lord and then we turn from our disobedience and we are forgiven.
Upon our willingness to repent, the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ washes away our sins and we are set free from its deadly hold on us resulting in a clean conscience before God. Once we are forgiven the demons have no more hold on us and must flee. Our deliverance depends upon our desire to turn away from our sins and disobedience before the Lord, acknowledging our transgressions and thereby receiving freedom.
A man with a legion of demons, about 5000 in the Roman army, who was running naked among the graves and breaking steel chains saw Jesus and ran toward Him, falling down at His feet and acknowledged Him as Lord! This was possible because demons cannot control our will and that made it possible for the man to come to Jesus to be made free!
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9
