For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you; that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed (last supper) took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim the Lord's death. I Corinthians 11:23-26

Communion is one of the most powerful sacraments the church of Jesus Christ has because it is sharing in what the Lord has done for us. Never just a dead ritual as it has become in many churches, communion was meant to be a love feast where a meal was served in celebration of the finished works of Calvary.

The last supper was a model of what Jesus intended for His body to partake of the power, healing and deliverance given to us through the sacrifice of His body and blood on the cross. To partake of the bread is to take in the healing provided through the 39 stripes on His back and to drink His blood is to receive the very life of the Savior.

The apostle Paul warned the Corinthian church not to eat this meal in an unworthy manner lest they eat and drink judgment to themselves and for this reason many were weak, sick and some even died, not discerning the Lord's body.

"This is the bread which came down from Heaven, not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever." John 6:58
