Praying always with all prayer and supplications in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints, and for me, (the apostle Paul) that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel. Ephesians 6:18,19

Born again 42 years ago, washed in the blood of Jesus, and baptized in His Holy Spirit, I began to speak in tongues, although not having a clue what I was saying, I knew there was power in praying in the Spirit! In the above-mentioned scripture, the apostle Paul was asking for utterance which I believe to be speaking in tongues so that he could discern the mystery of the gospel of which tongues is a part!

The gift of tongues scares the daylights out of most believers today because the gift has been misused and not applied according to the instruction of the scripture. Nevertheless, it is a valid gift of the Holy Spirit and though misunderstood it must be utilized and not rejected. When the Holy Spirit was poured out on the 120 at Pentecost, they were all filled, and all received the gift of tongues! This first miracle of God's grace was used by all, and the very next result of their obedience produced a harvest of three thousand souls, saved right outside their door!

In I Corinthians chapters13 and 14 Paul explains the operation of the gift of tongues, and its various types because there are various kinds of tongues with different purposes. So, being zealous for spiritual gifts as Paul had spoken, let it be for edification of the church!

How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. I Corinthians 14:26
