Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weakness, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:14,15

In the Old Testament the High Priest would go into the Holy of Holies once a year to atone for the sins of the people. As he approached the ark of the covenant where the presence of God dwelt he would smear the blood of an unblemished lamb seven times on the mercy seat, signifying the Lord Jesus shedding His blood in seven specific places for us, giving us all the benefits of salvation.

As new creations in Christ we have access to the very throne of the Most High, the right to come before our heavenly Father through the shed blood of His Son, where we can receive mercy, grace and all the benefits of our inheritance as children of God! Just as you came before your earthly father you can come before your heavenly Father and speak to Him in faith that He will hear you and answer all your requests because of His great love for us.

Our High Priest knows our every need, being tempted as we are, He understands our weaknesses and our shortcomings so that we don't have to work something up to come before Him, we don't have to loudly name it and claim it, we only have to receive. We are family and our needs are met as we ask and receive in faith by His grace.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
