In 1968 I joined the Marine Corps, shipped out to San Diego for boot camp and then on to Camp Pendleton for combat training and in a period of six short months became a lean mean fighting machine! Upon my arrival I was told my life was no longer my own, having giving it to the Corps and would belong to it for the next six years!
Spoiled rotten, headstrong, arrogant and lazy, it wasn't long before an 18 year old kid became a man in the greatest fighting force the world has ever known! So it is with the army of the Lord, we join when we are born again, we are baptized into death to all independent and selfish living and empowered with the weapons of our warfare by the baptism in the Holy Spirit. We are no longer our own as we enter a life of service to the Lord as His soldier!
Becoming a born again believer in 1980 and set free from drugs and alcohol addiction I was about to enter the "Army of the Lord" but unbeknownst to me it wasn't joining the church or sitting in a pew, it was about to be a sell out in order to follow the Lord in discipleship! I had no idea what I had signed up for until the Lord showed up at my office one morning and took me to a graveyard to be sworn into His service!
"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life also, he cannot be My disciple." Luke 14:26
